Artificial Intelligence Policies
iRecall Journal adopts Elsevier-specified policies for the use of generative AI-assisted technologies in paper preparation for publishing in the iRecall Journal.
For Authors
When authors use generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in their writing, they should only use them to improve the work's readability and language. Because AI can provide authoritative-sounding output that is wrong, incomplete, or biased, the technology should be applied with human oversight and control, and authors should carefully review and revise the results. The authors are ultimately liable and accountable for the content of the work.
Authors should not include AI and AI-assisted technologies as authors or co-authors, nor should they cite AI as an author. Authorship signifies responsibilities and tasks exclusive to human assignment and execution. Each (co-)author is responsible for ensuring that any doubts about the accuracy or integrity of any element of the work are thoroughly examined and resolved, and authorship necessitates the ability to approve the final version of the work and agree to its submission. Authors are also responsible for verifying that the work is original, that the indicated authors are eligible for authorship, and that the work does not violate third-party rights. Before submitting, authors should familiarize themselves with our journal's Ethics in Publishing policy.
In submitted publications, we do not allow the use of generative AI or AI-assisted tools for image creation or modification. Enhancing, obscuring, relocating, removing, or introducing a certain aspect to an image or figure are some examples of this. Colour balance, contrast, and brightness adjustments are permissible as long as they don't obfuscate or remove any information from the original.
Authors should disclose the use of AI and AI-assisted technologies in their article in a new section called 'Declaration of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies in the Writing Process' before the reference list. The statement will also be included in the published work.
Statement: During the creation of this work, the author(s) used [NAME of TOOL / SERVICE] for [REASON]. After utilizing this tool/service, the author(s) examined and edited the text as needed, and they accept full responsibility for the publication's contents.
Declaring the utilization of these technologies promotes transparency and confidence among authors, readers, reviewers, editors, and contributors, as well as compliance with the applicable tool or technology's conditions of use.
For Reviewer
When a paper is invited to be reviewed by a peer reviewer, it must be kept strictly confidential. Reviewers should not upload a submitted manuscript or any portion of it to a generative AI tool because this may violate the authors' confidentiality and property rights, as well as data privacy rights if the paper contains personally identifiable information.
This duty for confidentiality also applies to peer review reports, which may contain confidential information about the article and/or the authors. As a result, reviewers should avoid uploading their peer review report to an AI tool, even if it is only to improve language and readability.
